Mast Tip Extensions on Carbon Masts

Mast Tip Extensions on Carbon Masts

Post by Richard A. Peters » Thu, 21 Jul 1994 21:11:23

Does anybody have any experience/recommendations on the
advisability of using tip extensions on carbon masts.  The mast
came with instructions on care that stated use of tips are not
recommended.  But is this being overly cautious?  Thanks.

I've been rigging an 18" extension on a Dynafiber XL 460cm/25cc
for a 7.5/6.7m Multisail race at the 7.5m size with no problems
or indicatiVery impressed with my Multisails, (7.5/6.7 and 6/5.4)
Good low end and great top end, BIG range. Worth the bucks.

  Good luck and stay "in-z-straps"

I've had an 8" extension on the end of a Sailworks carbon mast for a year
and a half (to rig my 7.5) with no problems.  I think that it's probably
better to have most of the extension at the base though...the longer the
tip extension the more leverage that's exerted at the mast top.
