Ocean Beach, San Francisco, CA at approx. Quintara

Rogue Wave custom wave board (8'2", roughly 76 liters)...  bright
colors (red, orange, blue)...  has a white repair area around front
starboard foot pad with signatures of sailing buds on it...  pro
contour straps

black tendon

Chinook carbon ext.

Gulftech 100% carbon needle 400cm wave mast

WH carbon Makai booms with short harness lines

Simmer x-flex 4.7 (2006)...  close to new...  bright orange

Here's the story...  went sailing around 2:00pm for about 40 minutes.
Left the kit on the beach and went up to the house to get some food
and meet a friend.  About an hour later, went back to go sailing, and
the gear was gone.  We looked all over the place up and down the beach
and talked with the park police...  they went looking for it too.  I
ended up filing a report, and that's that.

I'm more mystified than angry at this point.  We sail here often and
leave rigged gear on the beach for short periods all the time.  Today
was very windy (too much for my 4.7), and it would take someone
knowledgeable to derig or carry the kit...  there's no easy access to
the street or a parking lot.

If anyone knows or hears anything, I can be contacted at

Damn JM, that's bordering on bizarre. Sure it didn't get blown into the
dunes? The gusts this afternoon were in the 40+ range at Funston. Guessing
it was 30+ on the beach.  I got spanked at Kelly's on a 4.7.

I work at Judah and 45th so will keep my eyes open. Post a notice (with pics
if you have them) at Java Beach as the karma police hang out there.

Hugh

Hey Hugh...  yeah I'm honestly a bit baffled...  but pretty darn sure
it didn't get blown away.  When I left the beach, everything was
positioned properly and in the process of being buried.  The wind was
blowing sideon and blowing into the very high concrete sea wall.  If
it did get blown, it would've stopped there...  but we did search the
dunes and all nearby (and not so nearby) areas to be sure.

I think I saw you sailing up there at Kelly's...  on Ezzy's - right?
We went up there to try to find a ranger, and I got to catch up with
Scott...  haven't been up there in a while!

yep that would've been mine...  right before I went out.  I waited for
the tide switch at 1:30 in hopes of something cleaner than the total
mess we had today...  hit the water at about 2, then took a break
around 2:45.  The kit vanished between then and 4 or so.

BTW, I'm told the surf was actually nice and clean in the morning with
5.0 or so wind...  shoulda caught it then.

JM, were you out at Quintara on an orange sail Sunday? Any luck finding your
gear?

no luck finding the gear, but some luck getting some sailing this
weekend :)  I got a really nice 30 minute session Saturday before the
wind died then came back up.  Yesterday (Sunday) I had a sweet 2 hours
before I quit...  then Lev went out, but the wind had lightened up too
much at the beach.  We both have orange 5.8 Simmer Icons...  he sails
a red board, mine is white.

Did you get out this weekend?

My 4.7 and 76 liter board are still missing...  I've filed a claim
with my renters insurance.

Coolio. Yeah gurlie was running along Great Highway and saw you tearing it
up at Quintara.

I sailed Crissy Saturday and Dav yesterday. Tis the season.

I made some inquiries amongst the homeless tweekers that hang around the
7-11 across from my office. No joy however....good luck with your insurance.

Thanks Jeff...  as frustrated as this makes me, I think I'll be more
frustrated spending a lot of time searching through suspicious ads,
etc...

Alan, the knee's been fine, but I've had to take it easy because of
the foot.  That's taking forever to get better!
