Your computer's Pentium CPU - OLD or NEW?

Post by chee.. » Thu, 20 Jul 1995 04:00:00

Does your computer have the OLD Pentium CPU, with the floating point error, or does it
have the NEWER CPU with the problem corrected?

Here's a simple test to find out:

From Windows, pull up the Accessories Group.  Double Click on the Calculator.
To get to the scientific calculator mode, pull down View to Scientific.

Enter:  1 / 824633702441.0 =

The result should be 0.000000000001212659629409
(That's 11 zeros following the decimal point.)

Enter:  * 824633702441.0 =

If the answer is 1, your machine has the later CPU.  (That's good).  Otherwise, Intel
will replace your CPU for free.  Intel:  1-800-628-8686

Hey, when I go camping, Pentium chips are the last things on my mind!

Reply: Are Pentium chips bad for your health like high fat Potato chips?

I've heard Pentium computers make great windsurfing buoys.  Just scoop
out all of the crappy Intel electronics, then seal the seams of the case
with epoxy resin.  Unlike the old Pentium, they "float" very well :-)

Guys,

Must not get much wind up there, best I can tell.

I always make sure that I have my Pentium with me when I go on my
windsurfing trips... they run so hot that they make a great hotplate to
cook up that can of beans on at the end of the day.  No messing with
wet matches and empty propane cylinders!  :=>

No worries!
