The last three days have been excellent (3.5-4.5) on the MA
coast. Today was SW 4.0 in Chappaquoit (Buzzards Bay). It had blown
all night so the waves were logo high. Once outside, those famous
Buzzards Bay swells were HUGE! They really felt like moving mountains
of water. The wind picked up a lot in the afternoon, so after having
got my fair share of "rinse cycles" I spent the last two hours in the
shallow pond behind the road ( the "sail of shame"? ). At the end of
the day there were in fact as many sailors relaxing on the pond (4.5
and flat water) as there were in the surf. An excellent day indeed...

Where does one get those weather reports, I 'm also in the boston
        area.

It really took off here the past few days, monday was a 4.5
in the afternoon, and yesterday, was a 3.5 day, all day
        sunny, warm, and windy!

Has anyone any experience with the Hi TEc  Ian Boyd pin tail
i need a high wind board, for 4.5 and down. I currently
have a F2 Axxis 260, and it was a little big the past
        few days

A while ago I saw something on TV about an indoor pool with large high output Electric Fans.
It showed some hot board sailors doing some wicked tricks.  Does anybody know where these artificial
windsurf parks reside and who runs them?

Here's my $.02...

This is a big sport is France, Paris I believe.  Look for the Tudor videos.
I'm not sure what Tudor means, but I have had a look at this stuff on video
at work.
It was started to bring the fans closer to sailing and has supposedly worked.
The fans go nuts, have favorites and flock to watch these events like
Americans watch Football.
Well that's all I know.  I'm sure there's more to the story, have at it
netters

No pun intended, Gene?? ;-)
BTW, I think Tudor is a watch company (i.e. the sponsor) but I could care
less if I'm wrong....

BTW(#2):  Rio tomorrow?  In between classes? :-)

These were actually PBA events held at Bercy in Paris, for the past couple
of years. I believe there was also one in Barcelona this year. It was
covered in US Windsurfing mag, but I can't remember when.

Bercy is a large indoor arena used for moto-cross, and many other sports.
For the PBA they had a pool 3 feet deep with water dyed blue (for effect)
and a bank of Hoover fans about 6 feet in diameter, the whole length of the
pool. These generated a "constant" force 5 wind, though there was
apparently turbulence where each fan's stream met the adjacent streams, and
the jumpers had problems because the wind "died" at 6 feet up, and 3 feet
of water isn't much to fall into! They ran three nights of slalom racing,
followed by Jumping from ramps (see other posts), and most of the PBA stars
turned out.

The slalom was pretty close & furious, figure-8 racing with 4 sailors per
heat. And beach-starting when they fell off! The jumping was unreal!
Polokow made a loop, others managed table-tops & part rolls. Polokow also
jumped into the arena! There's footage on various PBA videos, and also the
Polokow video has some of him jumping.

I don't think this is somewhere you can go and sail, rather they construct
the arena for the event and take it down later. Interestingly, those that
took it "seriously" developed special kit - sails that worked on a 6-foot
wind span and were designed for short bursts between the bouys, plus boards
that didn't trash too easily!

I didn't need to hear this. I've been stuck here in the office dreaming
of Chappy and, occassionally, looking at windsurfing gifs. The weekend
is upon us and how much would you like to bet it will be another dead
one. I can count on one hand the number of times we've had any wind
around here on the weekend so we could sail. The few days I've managed
to get off, not by choice, were also dead. A firend of mine hit Kalamas
the other day and said it was a steady 30 knots. If this keeps up, I'm
going to take up golf. The weather has been perfect for it every weekend
this year....

For those who don't have this system in their yellow pages:

        telnet 141.212.196.177 3000

** Does anyone have a line on weathermap and satellite gifs. I used to
pull them off of an anonymous ftp from 128.174.5.98 but hey seemed to
have shut down the access to the system. The above reports are direct
issues of NOAA, and we know how realible they can be. At least with the
images, I could make a better informed guess, most of the time, than
NOAA was making.

Thanks,
Wayne.
