North Carbon Mast opinion

North Carbon Mast opinion

Well, I have some birthday money and decided to upgrade to a Carbon
mast.  My local shop has UP, North Excellerators, and North Space
Tech (correct name??).  I wanted opinions about North Carbon masts,
specifically the Space Tech.

I thought about the Space Tech because I can buy a 460/25 now and
perhaps later (just) another top to make it a 430.  I have a
Delta3, and these are the recommended masts.

I understand any carbon mast will be better than my vintage Fanatic
and Mistal, but thought I might check here first.

What about the UP (at least they come with a mast bag)?  Are mast
bags a must like mast protectors are (it will be in may car)?

I have two complete Space Tech's, a 230/230 and a 210/210. I love mine. What
convinced me was their two year warranty which includes surf. I feel confident
that I have a sturdy mast that won't let me down. (Don't anyone bust my bubble
now). I never interchange the tops because 460/420 gives me plenty of
versatility besides I like to rig both at the same time quite often. I may get
the 190/190 later for my small sails.

Dave:

It's always a good idea to get the recommended mast for any sail, if
possible.
I use the Xcellerators (420/460/480) and for slalom and B&J type
sailing they are nearly bombproof. All of mine are at least three
years old and I have had no problems at all.
I bought an F2 mast quiver bag  nylon outside/relective inside that
holds all three masts for about $40. It has really solved my mast
shipping/storage problems as it keeps them from the sun, and provides

good protection against impact damage.
The  Space techs are very good, the only advantage the Xcellerators
have is they are a little lighter, but are not wave rated whereas the
Space Tech XC's (20%/30%/40% carbon)  are all rated for wave use.
The higher the carbon percentage the lighter, and the 30% XC's are on
sale right now at most North dealers for very good prices.  Also the
96 Space Tech XC's carry a 2 year warrranty.
For my money either the Xcellerator or any of the Space Tech XC's
would seem to be a very good investment, and if they are the
recommended mast for your Multi then how could you possibly go wrong.
If you need more technical info on the masts let me know as I have all
the current North info on mast/sail compatability.
Hope this helps!
