Hatteras Windfest 2007

Post by Brian Sangeorza » Thu, 04 Jan 2007 09:47:12

I know this is a long way out, but I'm doing my scheduling for the
winter/spring.  Does anyone know the dates of the 2007 Hatteras Windfest?
The Frisco Woods site is showing the 2006 dates.
TIA

Hello Brian,
I got word in early December that it would take place on April 19, 20,
& 21.  This was passed on to me from Peter at the New England
Windsurfing Journal and verified by a call to Frisco Woods as well.
And for those of you who want to plan further ahead for something cool,
one of the same sources above- the NEWJ- was told by a certain Nevin
Sayer that this year's Martha's Vineyard Challenge may end up being
another rounding of the Island, as a celebration for the 20th running
of the event.  That would be cool to  -try-  to make it around The
Vineyard "one more time".

When is the Martha's Vineyard Challenge,  I would love to try the full
Island rounding, is there anyplace to rent gear I would hate to have to
bring my Kona cross-country.

Hello George,
There is/was one shop on the Island called Winds-up and it may still be
a viable store but I have not been there in 4 years.  The Challenge has
been held in September but its weekend has varied throughout its
history.  I'm sure that the planners would make an announcement
confirming this rounding as soon as the season starts so folks can plan
ahead.

Hey George!  It would be great to see you at the Challenge.  This
year's Challenge is scheduled for Labor Day Weekend, with registration
on Friday evening and the racing on either Sat. or Sun, depending upon
which is the first favorable.  As for gear rental, finding a longboard
is not too tough.  Finding a competitive longboard might be more of a
hunt.  I'd check the usual sources, Island Windsurfing and Sailworld
Cape Cod for a possible rental.  You might also call Wind's Up! during
the summer to see what they might have available.

If you are running into problems, please drop me a line in early August
and I will see what I can dig up for you.  As well, if you need
housing, let me know as early as possible.  Me casa su casa.

-Dan
