Recently I saw some guys had shot their fins into the board, intead of
fastening them with screws, and afterwards sealed the holes with poly. They
claim it's much harder to move the fin now, and that the board will run a
better course with stronger wind.
Maybe this is an advantage, but I can imagine sailing in shallow water. What
happens if my fin hits a rock? Won't it just be torn out from under my
board, the skin ripped and the foam exposed to water? Now the worst that can
happen is that I have to make a new fin-shaft.

sorry, what do you mean by "shot"?
