Has anyone used a 5.3 or 5.4 on one of these? If so did it work acceptably
or was it too big?

When conditions are just perfect I use a 5.5 wave sail, on my F2 252 wave.
But only with clean swells and no chop.  With this setup it is very easy to
sink the nose in many manuevers, which can lower my enjoyment.  If the wind
is light enough to need a 5.5 I always prefer to use my F2 wave 264 which is
a much better combo, but I don't like to always bring multiple boards, so
sometimes I just make the small board work.
