Thanks to all for your responses and suggestions.  First of all I am a
doctor! and I did get a chest x-ray - nothing broken - no pneumothorax
(collapsed lung) I am pretty sure I either tore some intercostal muscles
or separated cartlidge along my sternum - I am slowly getting better and
have a Gorge trip planned in 10 days.  I was more curious about the
mechanism / frequency of the injury as it really was a fairly
unspectacular wipeout at the time.  Also - how do you wear a life vest
with a waist harness? or are all of you wearing seat harnesses.  Thanks
Again!!!.  .   .   .   . . . . . ........\_   ERIC

Same thing happened to me a few years ago in Aruba.  Very sore for a long
time.  Beware of the chance of re-injuring the area - has happened to me
twice while working out!

I wear a seat harness (Visual Speed Ed) and a Eversport paddling jacket
from REI that comes down to about my navel.  Water ski jackets tend to
come down too low and don't alway have the large arm openings like the
paddling/kayaking jackets...
