Freestyles V Large Wave boards

Hi all,
I would like to here your experiences and opinions on Freestyles and
Large Wave boards of around 100L, especially if you had the chance to
sail both.
I am thinking of getting a light wind board to use with a 6.3 or 6.5
sail. My main interest areas are looseness, jumping and early planing
characteristics. I am not interested in speed and not intended to use
this board with anything-smaller then 5.8-6.0 sail and for wave riding.
Basically what I am after is a loose, light air bumpn jump board.
I weigh 84 kg and sail SE UK.

Best regards.

Ps. Weekend forecast looks great for SE UK.

Freestyles V Large Wave boards

I'm going through the same process as you, looking for that perfect 100
liter board.  So far I've checked out:

-Mistral Score V99 and 104
-AHD MaxxRide 62
-F2 Air
-Starboard Carve 99

I have not sailed any of these boards, and I reckon I won't before I get a
chance to do so before I buy one (there is still ice on the lake here in
Ottawa, Canada!).  So I'll have to take a chance on hearsay, but I figure
they'll all be a vast improvement over my current board , a 1987 F2 Starlit
Wave (a fantastic board, but destroyed and too heavy for jumping in light
winds).

I figure all these boards sail really well, so my main concern is light
weight and durability.

Let me know what you find...

I have a light air wave board, and love it.  That said, the board belongs in
breaking waves, and doesn't work super well as a general purpose bump board.
IMO small wave boards make great high wind bump boards where control is the
main issue.  Light wind wave boards, OTOH, give up too much in terms of early
planing, speed, and upwind ability for light wind bump use.  As a general rule
I think wave-slalom or freestyle designs are a better choice if you don't plan
on sailing in the waves much.  Kind of a gross overgeneralization though, there
is too much variability between brands.  Got a particular board you're
interested in?  I bet somebody here has riden it.

I've got last years Mistral Score104 and find it to be really fun.
I've used it in surf with a 5.7&6.3 freestyle sail here in Oregon and
at San Carlos. You have to turn it in more of a pivoting fashion while
rideing waves, you can't just dig in the way you would with a wave
board. It is really a blast off the lip though. Aireals are so easy it's
almost not fair because it accelerates so quickly. However I have not
had that much fun in bigger surf(over 7') with it and would much rather
shlog out on my  wave board and catch some waves. For Bump&Jump in
light air the Score 104 is too much fun.  Jeff

Freestyles V Large Wave boards

I'd look at the RRD Twin Tip Max for a light air wave board that is also
fun on flat water.  I'm 90 kilos and I love the board in anything up to 25
knots (6 meter sail).
