Fin Position?

Fin Position?

Post by michael seungwon r » Sun, 31 Jan 1993 09:29:33

I was hoping someone in networld could help me out.

I was wondering where the fin should be positioned in the box to get better
pointing ability.

Basically I want to know the advantages and disadvantages of placeing the
fin forward or back in the box.  Does one way help in jibing or reduce
spinout or whatever.

Any comments would help.  Thanks

If you are standing in front of the fin, the force transmited through your
feet will tend to rotate the board downwind. AS far as I know, you should
position the fin so that the leading edge is directly below the back of your
back footstrap. When sailing you should transmit as much of the motive power
as you can with your back foot. This should give the best compromise between
pointing and stability.
