July or Aug for San Carlos?

July or Aug for San Carlos?

Nuking wind, inconsistent waves, yes, that's what I said.  The thermals
are well set up for days of nuclear winds (sometimes too much), but the
point can be flat as a lake.  If you want lake sailing, why did you go
to San Carlos?  Personally, I find the place quite boring in flat
conditions.  I'd rather be home sailing a lake than in the middle of
nowhere for days sailing one.

In general, the west coast doesn't have great waves mid-summer because
the storms in the Gulf of Alaska die out.  This is especially true in
July.  The action at that time of year is the south swell which comes in
periodically, but you have to time it right tracking the swell before
you leave.  PSC can be EPIC when a south swell hits.

If you want wind and flat water, PSC is great in July.  If you get lucky,
you might get some waves!  Plan ahead.  Better yet, go spring or fall
when there's more likely to be swell.  Otoh, we've had a late spring,
perhaps it will be good in July this year.

That's my "insight," take it for what it's worth.

(Friday-Monday: 4 days straight of logo-high+ swell/4.7 wind, life is
good again!)

That's the kind of info I was looking for.

Maybe I will wait a bit for a PSC trip. I intended it for first wave sailing
experiences, so I don't need big waves, but some waves are needed. Nukin
wind is not what I was looking for though. I was under the impression that
PSC was Gorge like in spring. I will get enough of those conditions starting
this weekend up here (Gorge). Although fun, was looking to try something
new.

Thanks,

Jay

You could always head to the Oregon coast. It will be micro when the
wind comes back Sunday.

No.
But it depends on the swell and wind waves.

But a better question might be where will it blow?
When the high is just starting to build into the area it comes from
California and works it's way north. If you were in for the drive the
best bet is Pistol River. If no west to south swell then Cape Sebastian
will be very small waves and user freindly.
If it will blow up north than Florance is a good bet before too many
days of constant wind which might generate a lot of NW pounding wind
swell. Any further north and you be lucky to get wind Sunday.
