Gorge Windfest 2000 brings to the Columbia River Gorge a season kickoff for
windsurfing, kayaking and kite boarding offering enthusiasts and the curious
a tremendous opportunity to see and test new equipment, hear technical
talks,
and receive lessons ALL FOR FREE. The weekend is highlighted with live
bands
both Friday and Saturday nights.
During the day, manufacturers and dealers will be at the Event Site, a beach
location in Hood River, with their products available for inspection and
trial. Representatives will be on hand for technical demonstrations and
explanations. Instructors and equipment will be available for those wishing
to try windsurfing with free lessons. Experience the new, light weight,
wide
and very stable windsurf boards. Free equipment testing. Sunday features a
used sports equipment swap meet at Windance with free public entry.
Evening entertainment includes live bands and *** beverage gardens.
Friday
evening kicks off the event in downtown Hood River (Oak and Front Streets)
with the popular Reggae band, The Earth Tones and a Beer Garden benefit for
the Columbia Gorge Windsurf Association. Then Saturday evening is packed
full starting with Latin/Salsa Dance Lessons, the CGWA benefit raffle and
silent auction, and capped with the high energy music and entertainment of
PEPE and the BOTTLE BLONDES. Tickets available in locally at Windance,
Windwing, Big Winds and Morin Printing.
Pepe and the Bottle Blondes is a 13 piece Latin- Swing Band that brings back
the copacabana style of the 1950s and combines it with in vogue: In vogue
meets the Andrews Sisters meets Ricky Ricardo. The front line is lead by
energetic Pepe, a native of Spain, who has entertained on Broadway and is
currently delighting the West Coast. Back by popular demand, this band drew
a record crowd of all ages at last year's event. An even bigger crowd is
expected this year.
