Windsurfing Accidents

Post by Mike Gridl » Thu, 08 Feb 1996 04:00:00

I am currently involved in a research project at U.C. Berkeley that is
examining hazardous beaches worldwide.  In particualr I am examining
surfing, windsurfing, and scuba accidents.  I would like to know if anyone
in ***space knows where I could find data with regard to windsurfing
accidents.  Is there a national organization or a safety organization?
Any tips or information would definitely be appreciated.  In addition if
anyone knows of particular spots that are dangerous for windsurfing or
where recurring windsurfing accidents occur I would like to here about it
(i.e. Hookipa on a big day). Thanks in advance!

Mike --
Just 4-5 years ago someone solicited the same info, planning on writing a
book about it. His may have taken a medical slant, if I recall correctly.
If you can track him down, he may have a bundle of info for you. I believe
he solicited through Windsurf magazine.

I recall an article in 'Sports Medicine' a few years back that was
done by some docs in the gorge area.  They studied what type of
injuries occured to windsurfers in the gorge.  Hope this helps some.
I'd be interested in what you find out in your study.  If you get
published let me know.  Thanks.
