Opinions on GUL's drysuits; durability and zipper

Post by Marku » Mon, 17 Jan 2000 04:00:00

Hi there,

I'm seriously considering to buy GUL's Hypaflex drysuit, but I don't have
any experience on those suits. So I wonder their durability and the
functionality of this particular suit (does it absorb water).

TIA
Markus

I bought a GUL Nitroflex and it has transformed the pleasure of winter
windsurfing for me. The zip, however, did fail but was replaced under guarantee
and it is also prone to damage if you knock against the fin while waterstarting
for example.

Dang, is GUL STILL using those chintzy zippers that failed almost as quickly as
Bare's cheap zippers of the early 90s? Shame on them. There's no excuse for
using anything but the good, serious, metal dry zippers that the good dry suits
use. Using cheap zippers in cold water is akin to Russian roulette; a suit full
of 50 pounds of ice water can kill. Worse yet, it might***up a perfectly
good sesh.

There are too many GOOD dry suits out there to fool with the wanabes.

Ever seen a  stainless steel dry zipper?

One of my suits came through with one and it seems a *lot* easier to zip and
un-zip than the regular bronze ones.

Check out the new 2000 NEILPRYDE dry suits.  They have an new dry
zipper that is much more flexible.  There are 2 modles. The 3000 series
is a price point suit and the 5000 has all the titanium and super
streatch ***.

I still like the Eclipse zipperless suits.

If your on the west coast (US) let me know and I'll help you find one.
