Has anyone been to Isla De Margarita?

Post by Leland » Thu, 26 Aug 1993 10:23:58

I'm thinking about going to Isla De Margarita (island off the
coast of Venezuela) next spring.  Has anyone gone windsurfing
there?  Where is a good place to stay and who should I rent
equipment from?  Is it worth the trip down there?

Thanks in advance...

There's an article on Margarita in the latest issue of one of the free
windsurfing mags in their travel issue (Northwest Sailboards? I forget
the name...  it's the glossy one).  Basically, the article made
Margarita seem like a windsurfing paradise: ample wind, cheap,
underdeveloped.  It's probably a great place, but few spots could live
up to the description in the article.

I can recommend a place not to go: Windsurf Cas En Bas on St. Lucia
in the Caribbean.  Very poor security.

Margarita!

        I highly recommend the place!

I went to the BIC Hi wind center in margarita this spring,

Place is great! winds are side shore. Its flat, then chop, then swells
and they take you over to this isle called "el coche" for some
flat water speed sailin, it was incredible

Place is much cheaper than aruba. You can eat dinner for about
$6.00, VS $30.00 in Aruba. I thought the sailing was better than
        Aruba also.

Last months "WINDSURFING" mag had a article on it.

Check the latest issue of Windsurfing Magazine.  Punta CarNero is my
recommendation.  Call for information through World One travel.  They have
an 800 number (try 800-555-1212 to get their number).   From everything
that I've heard, it's great and do it now before it becomes too popular.

I've talked to three people that have been there. They all said the
Windsurfing was fantastic, on a par or better than Aruba. The only
drawback is DON'T DRINK THE WATER. From what they told me there
are very serious parasites in the water that can and will make
you very sick. In fact two of the three got sick ( one from ice
cubes in a drink) and one of them was so sick he said he wouldn't
return.
