Hatteras Pumped last weekend!!

Hey guys,

Hatteras did come through last weekend.  I sailed Saturday and Sunday with
air temps in the upper 70s and water temps. varying between the sound and
the ocean.  I sailed the sound Saturday in Nags Head wound on a 5.3m in a
shortie.  Sunday we sailed the Salvo turnout.  Perfect side off conditions
and some nice waist to chest high waves.  Again, solid 5.0m conditions but
the ocean water was a little cooler.  However, no booties or gloves
required, in fact a dip felt good with my 4/3mm on.  Sunny both days, and
its probably still blowing even now.   The weather forecasts called for 10
mph winds last weekend, but of course they were way off.  Never trust the
weather forecasts for wind especially if its going to be sunny and unusually
warm on the Outer Banks.  That is a sure combination for wind!

See ya next time it blows,

Bill

We were there (in Avon) from Saturday the 27th till yesterday Saturday the 4th.
Eight sailing days out of eight!  And warm too...only one day in the low 60s.

In *honked* on Saturday afternoon 4/4. Overpowered on a 3.1m and a 7'1" board. A
2.6m would have been a better call. Gusts up to 60. For some reason, not many
people sailing ;-) Well at least it wasn't crowded on the water.
Sunday 4/5 worked as well, but had to use a large 4.5m sail though. The ocean was
hugh, but Trip Foreman went out north of Avon. I stayed in the kiddy pond and it
was very cold. Back to the drysuit mitts and hood :-(

I visited the Wind Hot Line site on Monday, and couldn't beleive the graphs for
Hatteras.  It sure look like one heck of a front came through.
