Climbing/Bouldering in Dallas

Climbing/Bouldering in Dallas

I am heading to Dallas for Thanksgiving break in two
weeks, and was wondering if there was any climbing or bouldering in the
immediate Dallas area. I will be staying with some friends at SMU, and have
heard that there are some parks that do offer climbing. I think I remember
an article in Climbing magazine about Dallas, but I cannot find it. I would
really appreciate any information about the area.

                                                        Thanks,
                                                                Scott

heading to Dallas for Thanksgiving break in two : weeks, and was wondering
if there was any climbing or bouldering in the : immediate Dallas area. I
will be staying with some friends at SMU, and have : heard that there are
some parks that do offer climbing. I think I remember : an article in
Climbing magazine about Dallas, but I cannot find it. I would : really
appreciate any information about the area. : Although I haven't been to
them, there are supposed to be several good gyms in Dallas, including one
TALL one on an old grain silo.  As far as I know, there is not a lot of
natural rock climbing around.  The park that you are talking about might
be Mineral Wells State Park.  It is about 75 miles or so West of Dallas.
It is all one-pitch sandstone.  The rock is REALLY crumbly(sp?).  I am
used to granite and limestone and it doesn't compare.  It is NOT like the
sandstone in parts of Colorado.

Having been to Mineral Wells, I would stick with the gyms in Dallas.  Or
you can come down to Enchanted Rock West of Austin and see some GREAT
rock.  Good luck.

Hello Bob:

I will be in your general area over the Christmas holidays and would
like to take you up on that. If you could suggest any guide books that
you know - for that area and maybe for the state of Texas as well.
  Thanks in advance.
            Sincerely:
