Best way to learn?

Best way to learn?

So I spent the past season clamoring up class I and II peaks, having a
blast, and now I'd like to move on to more technical climbs.  My
thought is that I'd like to learn in the field -- Sierra Nevada --
rather than in a gym.  Any suggestions?

If you want to learn, go to the crags and talk to people.  Often you
will find someone willing to let you "ride" if you have a harness.  Or
you can jump in with some boulderers and learn a bit from them, and then
step up to the roped climbs once you've got an "in" with someone who
knows something or knows someone else who knows something.  Personally,
I got lucky and someone I already knew was a climber (sort of) and he
and I started talking about it and he offered to teach me.  From there I
taught myself a lot and have learned from other partners as well.
Just be open about your experience level when talking to people.
Express your interest but try not to pester too much.  Talk to people
waiting to climb not people who are actually trying to climb or belay at
that instant.

It's like sex, the more open you are to trying different things, the
more fun you have.
