Looking for climbers for May '99 Denali Expedition

Post by Eric Keppe » Sun, 07 Feb 1999 04:00:00

Hello Folks,

I'm heading up a trip to Denali (Mt. Mckinley, Alaska - 20,320') in
May of 1999, and looking for a few competent climbers to form a team.
The climbing route will most likely be the West Buttress, since I am
familiar with it, but if the group experience is there, I am perfectly
willing to try another route.
I was on the West Buttress in May of '96 and though the expedition was
a success, the team only made it as far as high camp at 17,200'.  For
the whole story and photos from the May '96 trip, see:

I would love to give this mountain another try, so if you are
interested, please contact me for more info.

Please note that the requisite paperwork for the team will need to be
submitted to the Park Service by early March, which doesn't leave alot
of time, so if you are interested, please don't hesitate -- get ahold of
me soon!

Sincerely, Eric Keppel

Didn't know that success meant not reaching the summit ???
I think I would have said something more along the lines of "had a good time
or good expedition team spirit"...
If you don't find anyone and want to join an expedition, give me a ring.

I'd say that success is meeting your goals, or exceeding them.....the summit
may or may not have been their goal...It's a personal thing....

Or maybe it was successful in the sense that they all came back with all
their little fingers and toes?  Or maybe their goal was the 17K foot
camp...

I'd say the the same. There are plenty of reasons to climb, getting to the
top is just one of them.
