North Pole in July?

North Pole in July?

Post by Kai Lars » Tue, 28 Mar 2000 04:00:00

This isn't really climbing related, but I thought someone might know
the answer.

What is the weather like at the North Pole in July?

A friend of mine just won an all-expense paid trip for 2 to the North
Pole, and is wondering what to wear.  (seriously)

Anyone with any experience in polar travel please let me know.

I would suggest asking the folks who gave the price away.  If you have
to walk form Fairbanks (for example) then you will need a different
set of gear than if they are going to fly you up, let you get out and
right back in.

You need more data before you can get the answers you need.

If it is anything like thie South Pole in January,
it would be somehting from -30F to -5 F. But since
the S. Pole is 10,000' above the sea level, so I guess
the n. Pole would be about 30F warmer ? I remember reading
trip reports on the net written by people who had been flown
to the N Pole by Russian aircrafts.
