Incompatible? DMM Terminator crampons + Koflach Vertecal boots

Post by Nicolai Miche » Sat, 22 Dec 2001 14:02:20

The toe bail on my DMM Terminator crampons doesn't seem to fit on to the front
of my Koflach Vertecal boots. Is anyone else using this combination? Any help
would be appreciated!

I have a pair of terminators and they fit my Solomans just fine.

However, a long time ago I had footfangs and Asolo 101's and they didn't match. I
basically had to take a hammer to the bail and bend it till it did fit. I'm
guessing you'll have to do the same?

I also had to use pliers to modify with my Charlet Moser M10 to fit
the front with my Koflach Degre.

A vice and a hammer is another method.  Sculpting the toe bail to
your boot is not an unusual practice.

But what if you want to mix-match several pair of boots and several pair of
crampons for different situations? I suspect repeated hammering isn't very
good to the toe bail. But I have seen retail shops doing it all the
time. So maybe it's not too bad. Now I choose CM "semi steip-in" crampons
that have straps in front and GRivel's which have a keeper strap on the toe
bail (which Clyde hated much).
