I'm not sure where in the S-E you are but New River Gorge in West
***ia is a prime spot for both top-roping and biking. The season can last
into January in these bizzarre weather times, and if you can deal with the
cold, I've heard its climbable year round, especially around the Bridge
Buttress, the Animal Walls, Beauty Mountain and parts of Kaymoor (all get
ample sun in the winter months). There are trail maps for biking available
at the park office and guidebooks are easy to find (the local climbing shop,
Hard Rock, has them and even an small indoor gym).
Top-roping is easiest at the Animal Cliffs, the Bridge Buttress and
at Summerville lake, although the rest of the gorge is top-ropable with some
long slings and a little patience. As for grading, the gorge has in excess
of 1200 climbs--I think you'll be able to find something in your range! ;-)
Farther south there is good stuff in NC, Tennessee (Obed and more),
Kentucky, etc. I'm not as familiar with the areas but any EMS or other
climbing shop (Blue Ridge Outfitters for instance) should be able to give
you good info and guides.
Also in northern West ***ia there is Seneca Rocks. Not aas much
top-roping, but if you do any trad leading you'll find this a brilliant
place to lead in the spring. Hope that helps!
