Climbing in Greece: Guide sought

Hi,

I'm looking to do some climbing in Greece this weekend if possible -
preferably somewhere near to Athens. Given the short time frame etc. I'd
even considered paying for the services of a guide. However, I'm not having
much luck finding one that is available. If you have details of suitable
individuals or companies (or recommendations) I'll gladly take 'em! Thanks.

Martin.

ps. Any beta on bouldering areas welcome as a last resort.

A few hours of bus drive from Athens you'll be at Kalampaka
(www.kalampaka.com) in the Meteora area.  You'll still need a
climbing partner, but there is a local mountaineering club or so.

I forwarded your message to a friend in Greece who may be able to help you
out/hook you up with a partner - you may get an email from him (or you may
not..).  Have fun regardless!

Thanks David. I'd heard good things about Meteora, but was a bit scared of
the distance (estimated 350km from Athens) after my 2-hour journey from ATH
to the hotel the other afternoon(!). Having only vague beta, and with the
continuing lack of a playmate, I was going to wimp out with the slightly
vague "bouldering area 20km North of Athens"... until I saw the picture on
the page that you reference *slobber*. Definitely looks worth a visit.

Cheers!

Martin.

Well, few hours might have been understating it (probably 4 or 5 or
so).  It's some years since I was there.  You should be able to ask
for info at some bus station.  There is also a train going to Athens
IIRC, but that took longer.

At the time I was not a climber, but it was still great hiking around
there.  IIRC, the stuff there does not take to pro, but you have
drilled routes all around.  Difficulty was something like UIAA 6 and
above for most of the stuff (that's what I heard afterwards when
talking with people that actually did climb there), so probably not
too hot unless you are a frequent climber.
