Hey all,
I'm headed for the east coast of Florida, West Palm Beach area, for
Christmas.  I'm planning on doing some traveling while I'm there.
Anyone willing to share Florida Flying Hot Spots?  I don't care what
part of the state they're in, have kite will travel.....besides, I'm not
paying the rent-a-car company all that $$$ for nothing.
Thanks

I live in W. Palm area...best place to fly is Singer Island. Biggest,
widest beach in the area. Sadly there are no kite shops in the Palm Beach
area. In Orlando contact Krazy Kites in Mercado Plaza

accross the street from the beach where a vendor sets up his portable
(trailer) kite store and always is open unless it is raining with lots of
flyers. His name is  Dan Ward and is located at Haulover Park in N. Miami.
That is about it...hope you have a good trip.

And lets not forget in Fort Meyers.......there is a good kite
store.....name escapes me...but the owner is Michael Quinn and the
best place to fly is right behind the Holiday Inn......you can usally
find him there on the week ends.

Hi Zoe ! Steve LaPorte here, in Fort Lauderdale there is a group of flyers
that gets together on a weekly basis. At least they used to. Check with
someone at the "Caribbean Kite Co." in Lauderdale. They should be able to
direct you. They used to meet on this great beach there. I'm sorry I was
working in Nearby Miami Bch . & could never make it to their gettogether.
By the Way ,South Beach in Miami Bch. is a great spot. Thats where I got
bitten by the Kite Bug.Hpoe to see you on the Comp. circuit ths Yr.

My wife and I vacation in Orlando every winter and we have started flying
at Sand Key Beach just south of Clearwater.  It is a city beach so it is
not on regional maps only local maps. Someone told us that kiters were not
welcome on the beach but nobody bothered us.  We were there during Spring
Break but the beach was almost empty. If you take Rt 60 into Clearwater
take a left just after the Intercoastal Waterway.  Follow the road until
you go over a bridge (2 yrs old), Sand Key Beach is about 150 yds down on
the right.

OK forget the  Myakka St park idea
My brother says there are very few if any big areas.

However, I remember flying Free Flight model airplanes
at McDill AFB several years ago.
Thats out in the middel of Tampa bay and full of large
open spaces. Now theres been talk of base closing etc.
So I suspect that if local guys took an interest and
coordinated with base authorities , it would be or
could be a buggy paradise for a few hours, maybe !
AND it's right there nearby !!! :-)

This is just a suggestion and as I'm in Michigan
I would have any "sway" with Fla. AFB floks.

Local guys will have to make this happen .
There is month before we all get there.
Even as slow as the Govt an be, it's sounds like
a possibility anyway !
