James Hodson's reference to the copyright site is well worth the read.
The endless copyright/patent/copying postings miss a point that never
seems to get discussed on this forum.  Copying a design without
permission is the same as stealing.  I have read endless postings that
try to justify stealing someone else's design without permission.  Why
not call the people who want to do this what they are -- simple,
un***erated thieves.  This are the same people who will cop your line,
standoffs, wallet, water bottles, etc. and justify the act with specious
pronouncements.  Folks, when you take something that does not belong to
you then you are a sorry thief. Oh, yes, I expect pages of arrested
adolescent statements that parse language over the question: "Is is
theft?" My answer, don't come around my kites because I know if you'll
steal Wardley, Benson, Bentancourt, Prism, HQ, etc., then you'll steal
from me.

See my own contribution to your so-called "endless" postings.

In the UK and Europe it /is/ a criminal offence. Maybe if you took the
time to read the postings it might be a little more informative for you?

Hi Perry

True, but the page does cover qoute a lot of what is relevant to kites, at
leat in my laymen's opinion.

I'll have to have a hunt for "1001 Big Myths About Petents
Explained", assuming that such a beast exists.

I was preaching on this topic recently to an Oregon Kiter with the
initials of D.G.  Of course Dave is a member of the 'choir'.

I see one of the real opportunities to rectify this problem in the
first suit for infringement naming not only the party that built the
copyrighted and/or patented kite, but also the party flying the kite
and the event in which it is flown.

People blame lawyers for ruining everything, but more often than not,
when people behave reasonably and legally, lawyers are never needed.

Soon, there will be an event, likely sanctioned by AKA.  In this event
there will be a competitor that uses an 'illegal' kite.  The owner of
the rights to the kite will file suit against the competitor, the
builder, and the event and name the event organizers and the AKA and
it's directors personally.

This suit could be prevented with procedures to deal with 'illegal'
kites.  But it is likely that the suit will come first.

People will definitely become a lot more aware of the dangers of
bootleg kites after defending against one of these suits win or
loose.

The above has been another random musing by:
