Does anyone know where I can find one of the old Gibson Girl box kites?
This was the very first kite I ever owned and was given to me by a
cousin in about 1961.  It is long since lost and I'd love to get
another!

Seeing one flying at Portsmouth on Sunday bought back a lot of memories!

So, anyone know where I can find one and how much would I expect to have
to pay for it these days?

Thanks,
-- Dave

Hi,
Sorry looked all over the place and all I can find is the history of
that kite.

Wish you the best.

I remember a thread from a couple of months ago concerning this kite.  My
memory has Ed Green and/or Richard Nourse gloating over who snatched one up,
but memory fails me often. ;-)  Perhaps one of these gentlemen can help.

not me - but I did see that same kite at Portsmouth on Sunday, in the
hands of "Mr Cody".... darn... memory cells kaput, what is his name?
he also has another Gibson kite in its ORIGINAL tube - never been flown
- he just opens the tube occasionally "to smell the history"..... I
believe he hails from up North, and also has the largest collection of
Chinese kites in UK ......

ummm.... CHAPMAN (ouch - that hurt)

yes - I am pretty confident that is the guy - first name still hazy -
possibly Paul ???

ANYBODY ??? please confirm this?

Yo boys,

I took a look in archives of rec.kites and found the mesaage you're looking
for. The content was as follows:

Quote:
>>>>Offers wanted.

I have a W.W.II. Gibson Girl kite in a straight metal case, the outside is
rusty, the inside is clean, with  a***lid. The kite inside is still as
it was originally packed. It has never been unwound, or taken out of the
cannister, because of this I do not know the state of the orange material.

I am looking for offers and to sell this kite in this state.Based in London.
You can contact me at:

<<<<

So I don't know wheter he sold the kite yet: still good luck on looking for
one!!

If you want to search the archives: go to peter Peters site and follow the
line to the newgroup. it really works well.

Thanks for clearing the cobb-webs from my memory.  The two gentlemen in
question were one Simon Dann and Peter Dawson (who purchased said piece of
history).  My appologies to***y and Ed for having associated you both with
such single line nonsense. ;^)  Silly Brits, they all look alike to me ;^)

Back to Dave,  The archive search turned up 15 hits on "Gibson Girl", some
of which have nothing to do with this thread and may be informative.

I believe there have been three or four of the Gibson Girl kites show up on
the e-bay auction site this year. Depending on the condition they have sold
for $65-$175.

Seeing as***y lives on the south coast anywhere north of him is
obviously 'up north'  !!  :-)

I believe Paul Champman comes from Chard in Somerset.

Dicky is going for a holiday.....

all this mental activity is giving me a headache....

if anybody is near woolacombe in the next couple of days,
look for a shambling wreck of a bloke with an over-stuffed
kite bag. Might even erect a Poole Kites banner!

I guess one's perspective on life *can* be different when one is sliding
down a hill [SNIP the rest in order to prevent much ROTFLOL]  :-)

Just don't mention the s*********t. :-(

I prefer not to think of it as sliding down a hill, rather just my bike
riding me for a change.

It's in good nick, still trying to pluck up the courage to open it out! one
thing though, does anyone have the tin case with the instructions on it?
mine is all rusted out and I'd like a copy please.

Peter Dawson.
