I found this iformation regarding "Kites On Ice" 2006:
The "full-service" festival has been cancelled. However, a group of
local flyers are getting together on the ice just for fun. Here's a copy
of the note they sent out:
As you may know, the 2006 Kites on Ice festival in Madison was cancelled
by organizers primarily due to funding difficulties.?
Nonetheless, many Kites on Ice regulars expressed a desire to return to
Madison to fly kites on the ice.? In response, some local Madison
flyers have scheduled a kite fly for Saturday, February 4, 2006.? This
fly will simply be a gathering of kite flyers interested in filling the
winter scene with color and we want to extend a warm invitation to other
kiters who may wish to join in.?
We have selected Olin Park on the southwest end of Lake Monona for the
location.? The park is easy to find, offers plenty of parking and has
easy access to the ice.? It is off John Nolen Drive just down the road
from Monona Terrace.? If Saturday's weather isn't good, we'll try
again on Sunday.?
While we are happy to field calls about lodging options and such for out
of towners, we have no organization to speak of, no budget, no
sanctioning or insurance, no field layouts, no security, no one drilling
holes for anchors, no schedule of events and no music or amplification
unless kiters bring their own.? In effect, everyone will be pretty
much on their own.
So, the kite party? begins around 11:00 a.m.? We will fly till 5:00
p.m., then retire to a warm spot for food and drinks.
