Ok, here's my final (I hope) concept art for the Tempest before I order the
supplies.

 What in the hell?

That's my X Quad modified for the next Galacta X-Men Super Hero
animated-part-cartoon-part-real dudes in funny
outfits-movie-made-for-television episode on NBC!

Well, at least I know those actors will be able to fly it, since it should
fly exactly *like* a Rev :-)

I want 10 percent of everything you make :-)

A "X shaped quad" is about as original an idea as a dual line delta Roger.

I thought about building somthing like this right after I first got into
quads, I think every quadliner comes up with this one (though at that time I
was thinking of crossing the rods in the middle)

Beyond that, there are many diffecences between mine and yours, the major
one being the X configuration on the vertical spreaders (diagonal spreaders?).
These will butress the leading edges and be much stronger than having
vertical spreaders would, as well as hold each side of the kite flat (with the
twisting mostly happening in the middle of the kite at the ferrules rather
than spread out along it's lenght).

I am crushed. Up until I read this message, I thought my ship had come
in... BcT
I had already planned on how to spend that first royalty check. Back to the
drawing board. Maybe the AKA is still accepting signups. Heck, I think I
could teach kids how to make Frustrationless Fliers. Heck, yes.
Creativity not only sucks, it doesn't even exist. Go figger. Oink, oink.

*shewt, they look almost identical from here. Maybe you thought you were
having visions about a new twist on an old X Quad idea when in reality, you
were remembering with that *other* side of the brain that drawing of the X
(Generation) Quad on the (dissappearing) Homestead page?

None of this matters to me, actually. I get bored with most quad kites
until they hatch into Puppet Kites.

The X Quad is just a dragonfly waiting to happen. Thank God all dragonflys
don't look alike :-)

No commercial plans for this one Roger, nobody would want a super twichy
radical quad like that anyway.  The only person who would buy this kite is
myself.

Also, it's not very original, as I said before, virtually all quadline
flyers think of this one first when they start thinking about building their
own kites.

 Speak for yourself?
My X Quad is solid as a rock... amazinging so. *Plant it* anywhere in the
window.
You made one large mistake... You designed all the sail billow out of your
kite, making it too flat and, yes, twitchy to the point of being darn near
impossible to enjoy.

Billow is your best friend, when it comes to quad kites.

The most important things in kitemaking are the things you don't see at
first glance :-)

It's not a mistake when you design it that way deliberatly, I *like* radical
quads, that's why my Shockwave and Solution get more air time than my 1.5
(which I haven't flown for more than 6 months)  Neither have any billow, both
are fast and radical, and I prefer them both to the 1.5

I see it fine, that's why I made damned sure it'd be flat as a board so it'd
have the manic radical quality that I love in a quad.

HHHHmmmmmmm...

Can I interest you in a clown outfit and a unicycle to go with that?

Erm... maybe I'm just getting old and lazy...

A nice, mellow, easy-to-fly quad with _just_ the right amount of
billow... my honey seated by my side... with a umbrella shading us from the
hot sun...

...and a six pack of Diet Pepsi...

...it just _sounds_ relaxing to me these days :-)

My idea of fun is a Shockwave in 15 mph wind, or a six stack of Solutions in
6-8 mph wind dragging me across the field.

Anyway, the panel templates are done, and the supplies ordered..  Just have
to wait for them to arrive.

Nope..  Mine is asymmetrical (bottom is wider and the ferrule angle is
greater than the top), and crossed diagonal spreaders on each side rather than
a pair of vertical spreaders, center is narrower with a "lever" passing
through it with loops on each end for the center of the bridle to attach to
(the lenght of this should affect stability, shorter = more radical)  Also,
the leading edges are curled like a Shockwave.

Maybe you can't see it in the drawing, but the spreaders are diagonal like
this X >< X  rather than I >< I as on your kite.  I'm not really sure how
having both the leading and trailing edges curled like this will affect the
kite (they may cancel each other out, in that case I'll have to change it so
only the LE is curled)

Hmm, I wonder how it would affect the kite to have only the trailing edge
curled?
