JUNE 17-18 2000

After seven very successful years, the London Kite Festival is back,
bringing together a vibrant  combination of aerial colour, music, art and
sport.  This year we are focusing on filling the sky with kites of all
shapes and sizes, with the emphasis on fun, and providing a showcase for UK
and overseas fliers;

- Fantastic arena displays by UK and International guest flyers from all
over Europe
- Saturday night 'Pyro Kitenics' firework display, choreographed with music
and kites
- Two rounds of the UK National Sport Kite Championships
- The UK's only urban kite buggy competition
- Team flying displays
- Art displays and painting competitions, with kites
- Kite fighting competitions
- Kite making workshop
- Hands-on introduction to Sport and Power Kiting
- Art and Craft stalls
- Food vendors and licensed Bar
- Kite Trader stalls

The Festival will take place over two days on Hackney Marshes in East
London. The marshes are the largest open green site in London, with over
three square miles of flat grass and playing fields. This is an enormous
area with room for everyone that wants to come along, fly a kite and have
fun.  For this year, we have invited celebrity guest flyers from overseas
and we will present a vast array of colour and shapes in the sky, ranging
from artistic display kites Kites to huge inflatable sky sculptures.

When you add to this the dynamic Sport Kite displays, the adrenaline of the
Kite Buggy racing and the various onsite attractions, there will be
something on offer to everybody. To mark this Millennium year, we will be
staging a display of world kites, celebrating the diversity of the cultural
traditions of Kiting across the globe.

Entry to the event is free on both days and there will be onsite car parking
space.  The programme will start at 11:00am on Saturday and Sunday morning.
On Saturday night there will also be the latest Hackney "Pyro-Kitenic"
display; the spectacular after-dark fusion of fireworks with music, lights
and kites.

The whole festival is relaxed, with the emphasis on providing entertainment
for all the family.  There will be a variety  of food stalls, a licensed
bar, and plenty of opportunity to add to your collection by visiting one of
the kite traders.

If you have never been to the London Kite Festival, and want to experience
one the best free-entry summer weekend events in the capital, then this your
best opportunity to find out what real Kite flying is all about. . The 8th
London Kite Festival promises to be the biggest and the best so far!
