newbie ski question????

Post by Jim and Barbara Jacobs » Thu, 23 Oct 1997 04:00:00

I haven't skied in about 11 years. I'm going to return to the sport this
year and I need equipment. I'd appreciate any advice anyone has. A friend
of mine told me to get the new parabolic skis. Also, I am 5 ft tall. What
size skis do you recommend? I'm trying not to go too expensive either.

Thanks

Barbara

If you're any kind of an upper intermediate or expert skier, steer
clear of the Parabolic type skiis.  They're easy to turn and great for
learning how to turn as a beginner or an intermediate perfecting form,
but they're a bit squirrely if you want to go straight.  I think they
will take their place where GLM was years ago in the ski schools.
From an experts point of view, they will fall out of favor, much like
rear entry boots, as the companies begin to admit they aren't as good
as they originally thought.  Of course, by then, they'll have another
reason why you need to replace your old equipment.  :o)

Welcome back!!!
