Any reports on ski conditions at 100 mile house, B.C.?  Having spent a
wonderful nordic ski vacation at 108 ranch B.C. a few years ago, I am
wondering what the snow conditions are now.....end of Nov...and are
likely to be in the next few weeks?  Any feedback from people who have
been there in the last few years?  Does anyone know of other nordic ski
centers in B.C.worth several nights stay?  Also what's happening snow
wise in the Methow Valley of Wash.?

There is plenty of snow in Eastern WA at the moment, & I would imagine
there is plenty in the eastern part of B.C. too.

I was talking to some people from 100 Mile House two weeks ago and the
skiing was still marginal there at that time, but there has been quite a
bit of snow since then.  I would imagine the skiing would be good by now.
Try E-mailing The Hills Health Ranch at 108 Mile for information on snow
conditions and accomodation right on the trails.  E-mail:

WWW: http://travel.bc.ca/h/hills/thehills.html

In B.C., also consider Silver Star Mountain at Vernon, B.C.  This is a
downhill area, but they also have good, well groomed XC trails (held World
Cup race there in 1991) and their trails interconnect with the North
Okanagan Ski Club trails at Sovereign Lake (hosted Canadian Championships
in 1995).  The accomodation and atmosphere at the mountain are excellent
for a holiday, the snow is some to the most reliable in the province and
there are trails for all capabilities of skiers.  I spent the weekend
before last at Silver Star at a coaching seminar.  The main problem was
that so much snow fell Saturday night and Sunday that they couldn't pack it
well enough for really good skiing.  If you are in the area and for some
reason find there are not enough trails for your tastes, within and hour
and a half drive there are also excellent XC trails at Larch Hills ski club
at Salmon Arm and Nordic Ski Club and Telemark Ski Club at Kelowna.  I
believe all these areas are open now with good conditions.  Silver Star
Mountain Resort does have an internet site if you want to check out more
information from their point of view.

There are lots of other good areas throughout B.C.  E-mail me if you are
going to be in any particular area and I will try to find a contact for you
at a local XC ski club.

Try the Silver Star/Sovereign Lake area outside of Vernon B.C. This has an
extensive well maintained trail system over varied terrain and consistently
good snow.  All ranges of skiing abilities can be challenged there.  Attached
to a great family downhill mountain for some alternatives of activities.  Stay
in Vernon and commute 20 minutes up the hill or on the mountain at the
Silverstar resort for a more pleasant but more expensive (still a bargain
undoubtedly by most ski area standards) stay.  On the island here Mount
Washington is great but less trail and less consistent snow conditions.  If
you are driving up through Vancouver you can also try Manning park which is
small but very nice, reasonable trails and excellent snow usually.  If you are
spending some time in Vancouver then Cypress bowl on the North Shore has a
nice trail system though the snow condition varies (good for a day visit if
you are trapped in the city).
