Salomon X-Series vs Salomon Pilot

IMHO, The Pilot 10 is one of the hottest all-mountain skis I have ever
ridden. I typically like stiff aggressive hard guy skis. I own 4 pairs of
GS racing skis and one all mountain (Volkl G30 193). On first ride I thought
the Pilot 10 was a wishy-washy piece of crap. However, once I started to
ride it the way it is intended to be ridden it came alive.

The Pilot system allows a ski to flex way more than any ski-binding system
ever. So, you have to ski it in a manner that takes that into account. Like
in the change from traditional to shaped skis you have to eliminate pressure
from the front of the ski when changing to the Pilot. Once you do that the
ski really comes alive.

The Pilot 10 has more energy than the X-Scream Series. It is happier in more
turn radii, it has better edge grip and is just more fun. Oh, yeah, I am
comparing the 186 Pilot 10 to the ?191? Scream Series.

Now for the real news. For next season the Pilot 10 Scream gets a wood core
which gives it more stability at speed and, thus, better edge grip on harder
snow. If you spend very little time in untracked snow you will want to check
out the Cross Max line of powder skis - sort of a cross between the Equipe
10 2V and the Pilot 10 Scream with Pilot. The Cross Max 10 is billed as a
Skier Cross ski. Next year Salomon is making 5-7 Pilot system skis.
