Salomon X-Scream 10 Pilot (2001 Models)

Hi,

Just curious if anyone has had a chance to ski on the new top of
the line X-Screams for next year yet?

I'm intrigued by the new binding system..  It looks AWESOME.  Has
any one skiied on it yet?  Does it make the ski more responsive?
Does it really work, or is it just hype?  Does the bulge on the
side of the ski (where the binding mounts) have a tendency to
catch snow when carving?

Also, I'm a little scared to go with it since it's brand new
technology..  Do you think it will hold up, or am I going to
constantly be sending the skiis in for warranty claims?

Thanks in advance!

Garth

Hi Garth. I skied the Pilot last season. As good or bad as any other
shaped ski. There is no "bulge" where the binding mounts. The binding
sides are flush to te ski sides. I didn't notice any difference in
performance between my Olin Sierra's and the Pilot. I use a Marker MRR
Turbo SC Titanium on the Sierra's and the ski flexes as well as the
Pilot with the mounted binding provided.

Hi Garth,
I also skied on the Pilot. The ski was an X-Scream. I liked it,
but not any better than any other 'scream I've tried. The
'screams I've skied on (other than the Pilots) had standard
Salomon rental bindings with no provision for allowing the ski
to flex independently under the foot (per Pilot binding or Marker
SC's) didn't really notice any difference there either. That
being said, I'm not gonna waste my money on a fancy binding
for my new SuperMountains on order for next season.
Just plain old Salomon 900S. No plate either on such a wide
ski. Not needed at all.

I demoed some Pilots last spring, and when I got back on my X-Scream Series
what a difference! My skis were so much better, quicker more rebound. They can
keep those Pilot 10's. I Demoed other brands and the Pilots were on the bottom
of the list! I still like the Series more than anything else!
