I am a redgular Windy city Sports magazine reader and I came across a very
interesting article on a Marathon training program. I have wanted to run
in a mararthon for 2 yrs. now but I'm afaid to because I feel I do not
know how to prepare properly for the race. I guess I could have read a
mararthon training book, so maybe I have been procrasinating. ANYWAY,
there is a very interesting MTP in the Chicago area called CARA's Marathon
Training Program that trains runners for the Oct. 30 Chicago Marathon.
Higdon's book on marathon training will serve as the program's text. The
MTP (Marathon Training Program) was designed to utilize the Chicago's lake
front for long, weekend training runs. But the last program became so
large that last year CARA expanded west to Du Page County and and operates
a second MTP on the Illinois Prairie Path. The MTP runs 18 weeks, from
early July to Oct. 30. The weeks consist of 18 weekends of long group
runs at your pace, six weekday evening training clinics with instructional
handouts, Higdon's book, a training log, personalized attention and
Just so you know I'm not Advertising for this program I just thought if
there is anyone out there like me who wants to run in this year's marathon
but needs some guidance, this article might be helpful. The program costs
$55 for CARA members and $70 for everyone else. Also, if you are
wondering where I got this information I read the article in the July
issue of Windy City Sports magazine on page 58.
Please respond to this letter and give me your opinion about this program
if you know any information or have been participated in it.
