Monday was a rest day. I gave up Tuesday's normal 8K in favor of the Hawaii
Trail and Mountain Club's annual New Year's Day climb up Koko Crater over
the natural bridge, down the old tram tracks, and back to the cars along
the rocky, splashy coast. Then I needed two more rest days.

Friday, chickened out of the ritual 5K because of strong winds and rain
showers. *Could* have done something minor in preparation for Sunday on
Saturday, but guess what.

So my only run of the week was this morning, "Bob and Ron's 5K." Same course
(but many more participants) as December's 5K. As I approached the finish-
line clock I had the idea I was going to improve on my time, but the seconds
clicked away faster than I expected; the last time I saw as I reached the
timing mat was 29:55, so I assumed one second longer than last time, maybe
because of being one month older, but the posted results had me at 29:55.7
(118/208, 2/4 M75-79), compared with 29:55.8 (66/126, 1/4 M75-79) for SAM's.

My right knee and thigh bother me some when I walk or sleep, but not in
these short races, so I'm getting hopeful about February's Great Aloha Run.

I'm training for my first ever Marathon, which will be the Bergen City
Marathon on April 27. I'm following Hal Higdon's Intermidiate 1 program,
and this is my second week. I ran 5k on Tuesday, 8k on Thursday, 5k on
Friday, 8k on Saturday, and 14.5k on Sunday. Friday was suposed to be a
rest day, but I had to reshuffle bacause I couldn't run on Tuesday.
It's gone pretty well so far, but I have a little pain behind my right
knee, particularly towards the end of my long runs.
Should I be worried?

I'm trail running and hiking as always, but I'm not training for
anything. Sure I may run the escarpment trail again this year, and
possibly some other races, but they will be the exception. I run for the
freedom and enjoyment of it. This week about 9.5 hours of run-hike.

#?Please tell us about your training week and goals.

Incredibly busy at work and preparing for several Oracle user group
related presentations ( one at my local user group in late January and
a second one at a big national class event Hotsos symposium in March/
Dallas ).  Volunteering professionally doing speaking gigs is always
good but easy to get over committed especially when major
infrastructure projects are going on at work ... not to mention family
stuff.

Usual week of running 6 days on and 1 off for maybe 45ish miles.

Nothing on near term racing schedule.

Good luck all!
