knee pain vs cortisone shot.......after knee surgery

Post by Lee Carkeno » Sat, 26 May 2001 18:30:52

I recently had arthroscopic surgery on my knee to clean up a torn
meniscus.

I am a 58 year old man.  Up until the surgery I was running about 40
miles per week.  The knee had been aching some for quite a while prior
to surgery.

Prior to the surgery, the attendant x-rays and MRI also showed pretty
bad arthritis.

The surgery was about 6 weeks ago.  I have resumed running on a more
limited scale........about 15 miles per week.  The knee hurts quite a
bit, and the doc says that is because of the arthritis.

I am sure that others have been involved in EXACTLY this same
scenario.  Has anyone recieved a cortisone injection into the affected
knee to relieve the ache?  How did it work out for you?  For how long
did the cortisone dull the ache?  Days?  Weeks?  Months?? Any notable
side effects or negative effects?

Comments?
