Can anyone explain why a stiff midsole is good for my overpronation or why
overpronators get shin splints?

Thanks
Dwayne

A midsole that is firm (denser) on the medial side of the shoe helps support
the foot and neutalize the rolling inward of the foot.  As your foot strikes
on the outside at the heel and rolls inward during the gait cycle, the shoe
will help prevent excessive rolling inward.

Overpronators should not get shin splints if they wear proper
(biomechanically correct and not worn out) shoes and they stretch
appropriately.
