Another newbie question about weight training

Is it two late to start weight training for the Marathon that is on Nov.
23rd (Philly, 11 weeks away)..  If it isn't what would be reccomended?
Also I have been playing Rugby for the last 4 weeks (although do to a
conflict with school it will be ending soon.) which just in the game
itself involved allot of lower leg pushing..

My opinion on weight training:

1)  Useful, ancilliary activity, like stretching.

2)  You can pump iron as much as you care, the effect
    upon your marathon time will be negligible.
