The men's qualifying standards are 2:20 or better for a
full expenses paid trip to the trials, and 2:22 for
entry, run on a USATF certified course.  The qualifying
period began January 1, 1994 and ends December 31,
1995.  The corresponding women's standards are 2:42 or
better for all expenses paid and 2:50 or better for
entry.  The qualifying period began June 18, 1994 and
concludes January 21, 1996 with the Houston-Tenneco
Marathon.  The producers of the women's trials recently
announced a graduated logding assistance plan for
qualifiers who do not make the "A" standard.  Qualifiers
with times between 2:42:01 and 2:45:00 will receive
$300 in credit at the Adam's Mark Hotel; 2:45:01 to
2:47:30, $200; and 2:47:31 to 2:50:00, $100.

The men's trials will be held on February 17, 1996
in C***te, N.C. in conjunction with the NationsBank-
C***te Observer Marathon.  The women's trials
will be held on February 10, 1995 in Columbia, S.C.,
in conjunction with the Carolina Marathon.  Both
races will dole out $250,000 in prize money.  The
distribution for the men has already been announced,
and will feature a $100,000 first prize ($40,000 for
second and $30,000 for third, down to $1500 for 15th).
The organizers of the women's event have not yet announced
the prize money structure.

I'm sorry, but I incorrectly identified Bob Kempainen's 2:08:47
marathon as having been run at Los Angeles in 1995.  The 2:08:47
was run at Boston in 1994.  Kempainen ran 2:11:59 at Los Angeles.
Ty Lanahan was the first to point out my error.
