I was looking for a marathon in the San Francisco Bay Area and could
only find a few listed. I am working on training for my first
marathon. I've been a runner for over 15 years, but have not run
competetively for several years. I would like to find a good course
for a beginner. A bigger race would be nice, as the cheers from the
onlookers is always encouraging. I'm working on increasing my
mileage and could probably be ready for a marathon as early as April.
I'm familiar with the San Francisco Marathon, but I'm not so sure as
if I like the course. What other marathons are there in the San
Francscico Bay Area?

The Napa Valley Marathon should be right up your alley.
It is scheduled for March 3rd 2002. The course goes through
the 'wine country' from Calistoga to Napa.

It holds a place in my heart because it was my first marathon (back in
1987).

Weather is usually cool at that time of year, which should help.
