Running St. George & injured with shinsplints, desperate for advice!

Post by slowLD » Tue, 29 Sep 1998 04:00:00

Has anyone ran a marathon with shinsplints? Sorry for the late post, I'm
starting to feel a little panicked.I was just diagnosed on Friday & I'm
scheduled to do St. George Marathon this Saturday. I've been resting with
moist warm soaks as advised by my sport medicine specialist,  it feels
better, but it's still a little sore. I'm going to see the specialist
tonight, he has a patch that is used by the sheriff's dept. for shinsplints
so they can still train. Needless to say, I'm very disappointed, I thought
this marathon would be a PR for me, I don't want to be out there struggling
with this on the course. Does anyone have any experience with this? Should I
cancel my reservations? I'm scheduled to leave this Wed. morn, any input
would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks in advance

I didn't know there was a marathon named after George Sheehan.

Hy,
Sorry to hear about your injury. I'm a 20K runner myself and know what it is
to have shinsplints, I'm still resting for the moment ! Normally I'd run a
10K race this sunday, but after one week of resting, I think to have lost a
lot of my stamina and speed. Perhaps my injury isn't even over !
Running with shinsplits is, according to me, quite impossible !
Let me know the new diagnose of your doctor please !
