I think the same is that most people don't remember the woman as a sports
figure but are more interested in her Death. I met Ms. Joyner in Baton rouge,
La. and I can tell you personal experience she was a most astonding and
beautiful woman. Her apperance matche dher attitude. She will be greatly
missed. Thank you for taking an intrest. Have a good one.

I was somewhat in agreement with this initially, when I first read the obits
andeveryone mentioned the suspicions of performance enhancing drug use, but
stated
that she had never tested positive for any of them.  However, thinking on it
more,
if she did use something and it had an an influence in her death, it is important
to
get that information out to all the younger athletes out there in an effort to
prevent
them from making the same mistakes.  I would consider it more positive of her
family to use her death to prevent additional mistakes than to try and keep her
image clean.  Of course, if nothing was ever used, then the issue should be set
to
rest.

I constantly see this, and often wonder about it.  Why is there such an
associationfor female athletes?  You never see good looks and athletic ability
linked as
definitively with male athletes.  I'm not saying that it isn't commented on, but
it
just seems to be more important for a female athlete to also look good (and you
will often see top female athletes who are not as attractive put down and worse
by the general population and even announcers for something that has absolutely
no bearing on their abilities).  Let's face it, there are many male athletes that
are
seriously unattractive, but it doesn't seem to be as much of an issue.

I was flipping through the channels the other night, and caught a show on ESPN2,
something like "Women's Fitness Contest", which seemed to be a mix of a beauty
pageant and body building, with a little of the Aerobics competitions tossed in.
Seemed a little strange, why not just have body building, or fitness, or
whatever.
Sorry for the long post, just something I've always wondered about that seems
unfair.

She passed all the tests.  What else can she do to put the carping to
rest?

Most sports announcers are men, and don't see how it's derogatory to
mention in passing that a woman is attractive.  They don't dwell upon
it, except where the woman herself makes it signfiicant, as Flo-Jo did
with her designer outfits.  I've never heard one mention that a woman is
ugly (other than East German swimmers in the '70's), though spectaters
have been known to make rude comments.

I am also comfortable with stating that Randy Johnson (Houston Astros
pitcher) is butt-ugly.  Other examples abound.

Yes and OJ is innocent and I don't want to see any of you write otherwise.

If you are talking about Florence Griffith-Joyner, which I think you may
be...anyone...especially females who are sprinters(as I was), definitely
knows who she is!

Even though she was my idol in the 80's I do believe she may have taken some
sort of PED.   Mostly due to the fact her times came down so much in the
course of a year.(world class sprinters have a difficult time doing such),
and the fact that her voice deepend and her jawline became more pronounced
(as well as other factors).    I don't look much at the physique aspect, as
I had a similar experience with my intense training, and have never taken
any *** to do so.

As of now, she died of a heart seizure (she had been having heart problems
for a few years now)...I haven't seen the followup to the results of the
toxicology/autopsy report as they're not supposed to be out for a few weeks
or months yet.

Anyway...just my 2 cents...I feel sorry for her family, and although there
are doubts as to whether she was "clean" or not...she was definitely a class
act on and off the track as far as kids were concerned.
