An estimated 45,000 participated in the annual July the
4th holiday event, but was darkened by the death of one
of the citizen runners. A 40 year-old male from Atlanta
collapsed and died of a heart attack in the 80 degree+
heat on the portion of the course known as "Cardiac Hill".

In the wheelchair division, Paul Wiggins of Australia won
in 19:58, believed to be the fastest finish ever.
