Ottawa Coming Events is provided courtesy of the National Capital
Runners Association (NCRA).

NCRA Membership:  Send name, address, telephone number and date
of birth plus annual fee (cheque payable to NCRA) to the NCRA
Treasurer - Brian Edwards, 81C Glen Park Drive, Gloucester,
Ontario, Canada, K1B 3Z1.  Annual Fees: Single - $20.00; Couple -
 $23.00;  Family - $26.00. Pay half of annual fee for balance of year (to
Feb) when joining in September or later.

Membership provides free entry to monthly time trials, reduced
entry to other NCRA events, and the monthly newsletter - On the
Run.

this document as a source of further information is NOT the

Sep 5 OTTAWA RIVER HALF IRONMAN TRI/DU/RELAYS. Swim/Cycle/Run
2K/90K/21.1K.  Solo or relay teams. 9am start at YM/YWCA
Outdoor Centre, Dunrobin. Call TBM/Cantel for more
information at 613-762-5413.

Sep 6   2nd ANNUAL BOOTH CENTRE RUN. This Labour Day event which is

in support of the Salvation Army Booth Centre, is sponsored
by Sports Experts and organized by the BNR RoadRunners Club.
Start/Finish is under the Laurier Avenue Bridge on Colonel
By Drive at 9am. Entry Forms at any Sports Experts store, or
from me (839-3041). Fees: $12 before Aug 12th, $15 before
Sept 5th and $20 on race day. Packet pick-up at Sports
Experts, St Laurent S.C. or at start line on race day.

Sep 9   10th (and regrettably the Final) MARIE-JEANNE/CARE THIRD
WORLD RACE. Our old friend Marcel Belanger advises that this
will be the final event, and that therefore the winners will
get to keep their trophies ! Medals to first 50 finishers.
Start at 6.30pm at small stadium, Polyvalente Mont-Bleu, on
Cite-des Jeunes Blvd.Hull. Cost is $10 ($12 on race day),
for an interesting 5K course (for interesting read not flat)
There is also a 2K event. Call Marcel for more info at his

Sep 12  MANOTICK FUN RUN/WALK FOR THE OTTAWA HEART INSTITUTE. There
is a 10K run around the Island, starting at 1pm from the
Manotick Arena, plus a number of supervised speed walks from
1K to 7K. For more information, call the Heart Institute at
761-4542.

Sep 12 NCRA GLOUCESTER HALF-MARATHON/5K.  The premier half-marathon
in Eastern Ontario. An ORA Class "B" event, and ORA Half
Marathon Provincial Championships. Start at Colonel By High
School, 1PM for the Half, with the 5k following about
10 minutes later. 18 age categories for the Half, and 13 fpr
the 5k, including the NCRA Trophy for the first Secondary
School four person team in the 5K event. Many other awards
and prizes. Pizza from Loeb/Ogilvie. Showers, change rooms,
ample parking at the school, which is located at 2381
Ogilvie Road, Gloucester. Race Kit pick up at Sports 4, Bank
Street store Sep 10/11. Call Peter Jones (521-5097) or

Sep 18  WILDERNESS CANOE TRIATHLON. Beachburg, Ontario at 9.30AM.
Canoe/Cycle/Run 5K/20K/5K. Take Highway 17 to just east of
Cobden then follow Wilderness signs. Solo, Pair or Fours
categories. Entry fees range from $40 to $100 depending on
category chosen, but you can use Canadian Tire Money (up to
$10) or TBM Bucks. Call TBM/Cantel Eventline for more

Sep 18/  SRI CHINMOY 24 HOUR RUN. Starts (and finishes !) at 8am
    19  No other details available. Call Dhvaja Dorn at 234-8217
    for more information.

Sep 19  MARATHON DE MONTREAL.  Start is at 9.08am (four person relay
at 9.13am). I have more information, plus some entry forms
if you are interested. Call me at 839-3041 (613).

Sep 20  NCRA BOARD MEETING. 7.30pm at the Glebe Community Centre,
    690 Lyon Street, Ottawa. Everyone is welcome.

Sep 26  BRITA SILVER RELAYS. An invitation has been extended to NCRA
by the Toronto Olympic Club, to enter one or more teams in
this event. This event dates from the turn of the century
and started as a relay from Hamilton to Toronto. It is now
held in High Park, Toronto with each of 5 runners  doing
three 1.8K loops. Call me for more information (839-3041)

Oct 2  SCOTIA MCLEOD - OAC CORPORATE RELAY. Start time is 8am at
the Ottawa Athletic Club, 2525 Lancaster Road, Ottawa. with
Brunch at 10am and awards at 11.30am. All teams must consist
of five members of the same corporation or government dept.
No one may run twice !  Male, female and mixed categories
with total age of under 175 (junior) or 175 + (senior).
    Fees range from $75 to $85. Call 226-7214 for more data.

Oct 3   THE GREAT CANADIAN RUN. Including the Canadian Championships
for 5 and 10K, plus 5 and 10K runs for us ordinary folks.

Also a walker's event, tots trot, in-line skate event, mile
classic and Canadian Duathlon. Call 613-762-5413

Oct 9  3RD ANNUAL BEAT BEETHOVEN. Try to run 8k in a faster time
than it takes to play the 5th Symphony.  For musicians read
as "Prestissimo". For runners read as 7 minute miles.  Start
at Ashbury College, Rockcliffe. Cost $15 before Oct 1st then
$20 .  There is also a four person team category.  All
participants get a neat long sleeve T-shirt.  Proceeds to
the Ottawa Symphony Orchestra, some of whom will be
performing at this event.  Applications at The Running Room

Oct 10  SRI CHINMOY XC 7k OR 17K.  Scheduled for the same spot as
last year, starting at 8am (8.45 for the 7k). Lots of nice
prizes, T Shirts and nourishment. $15 entry ($18 after Oct
4th - $20 on race day). Reg/Start at Huron Lodge, just below
Champlain Lookout. Phone 234-8841 or 568-7843 for more data.

Oct 18  NCRA EXECUTIVE MEETING. 7.30 pm at Glebe Community Centre.
    690 Lyon Street, Ottawa. Everyone is welcome.

Oct 24  RATTLE ME BONES '93. This is the second edition of this
event which attracted almost 600 participants in it's first
year ! There is a 10K (Wiishbone), 5K (funneybone), and
1K (Jigglebone), the latter for those aged 10 or less.
There are also student and corporate challenges. Entry fee
is $22 ($27 after October 22) for the 5/10K (1K is free).

information. Proceeds for Arthritis and Orthopaedics
Research Endowment Fund.

Oct 31  NCRA CROSS COUNTRY CHAMPIONSHIPS. 5K and 12K distances over
a challenging course near Mer Bleu. More details will be
available for the October issue of OTR, but reserve the date
now !  The rumour has it that President Dave will be dressed
in his Haloween outfit, as will Joe DuVall. Is there such a
thing as a broomstick built for two ?  Phone Glendon Pye,

Marathon of the Month.

A good number of NCRAcers will be doing Montreal, (see
above) on September 19. However, there are options for those
who choose to do something further away. I have contacts for
19 in the USA, plus 3 in Canada (excluding Montreal) Local
favourites will be the "Clarence" at Keene, N.H. and the
Scotty Hanton at Port Huron, Michigan. Take your pick, but
our choice has to be Montreal.

THE ONTARIO ROAD RUNNERS ASSOCIATION.

Lots of scheduled events including the Gloucester Half and
the Belleville Harbour Club Half. Call me for more data on
where you will be and when; there is probably something on.

WE HAVE NOT YET HEARD FROM......DEPARTMENT !

    As of August 19th we had not yet heard from the following
event directors, who organized a race in October 1992.

    Old Chelsea 10K Run.
    Humane Society Run for the Animals.
    Monte de la Gatineau.
