high heart rate questions

Post by Jon Marshal » Wed, 21 Aug 2002 00:47:18

and have just started running about 3 weeks ago. I am currently running for
3 to 5 minutes and walking for 2 minutes.  I am using a low end ($50 sale
price) HRM from bikenashbar.  My resting rate is around 55 which is
consistent with what the hrm reads.  While running for 3-5 minutes my HR
increases up to 200-205 bpm, during the 2 minute walk it will go down to
140-150, then I take off again for another 3-5 minutes and I do this cycle
for 30 minutes.  I am not in any pain during my runs, I am not running hard,
I don't think I could carry on a conversation with anyone though.  Am I
trying too hard to stay running for 3-5 minutes?  Should I back off a
little?  The calorie counter on the HRM says that I am burning about 500
calories per 30 minute run/walk session.  Can this be accurate?  I went
through and calibrated it correctly with all the info that it needed.

Thanks
Jon

I apologize for posting a question that was addressed recently.  I found
most of my answers in an earlier post.

!

Hey John, steady!  You actually hit BR on a good day.   Normally he'd be
telling you exactly on which part of your anatomy the HRM should be mounted.

Unless your doctor prescribed it for medical reasons,
a heart monitor is useless the first year of running.
It can be useful for improving longer races and long
distance running- things that shouldnt be attempted
the first year.  Otherewise it just gives a set of
hard-to-interpret numbers that dont mean much.

1)  Do not respond, maybe he will go away
2)  Killfile
3)  Ignore

You have power here.

He's been around longer than you.

Now there's a novel idea for rec.runners.

You could, but he may be saying bad things about you behind your back.

Power comes from facing and overcoming challenges, not ignoring them.

I was going to leave until I realized that the voices were right, you are all
out to get me. I listen in for protection.

jon
m2c
run at 70% your max ,,, this will be very hard as we all have a fixation
(sp?)to go fast for 800 meters ,,, in about 3 weeks( will vary) you
should be able to reach another 800 meters ,,, if your cycle is 30
minutes you should be able to do 1.5-2 miles ( 15 minute miles)
