5k training question

I currently run about 25 miles a week......every other day of running, I run 5
miles...1st mile ,warm up. then miles 2-3-4, 2 minutes at race pace or faster
and then 2 minutes recovery.  mile 4-5 i run at normal training pace to cool
down. Is this good training for building speed for a 5 k race?  the other days,
I run 4-6 miles at around 8 minutes a mile, depending how I
feel..........................p.s.   what a shock,flo-jos death is

If you're running race pace intervals
every other day.....that might be a bit
much.....your age and recovery ability
will be a big factor....I suggest doing
the workout once a week....and then
on the weeks you don't have a 5k
race....do...."a ladder down"...maybe
mile, 1/2 mile, 1/4 mile....with recovery
the same length of time as the interval...
....later use a longer rest period....Roy
