Running thru the flood in the 2011 USATF Masters championships

This year in Berea ( 2 miles from my house ) the USATF Masters
championships ( Nationals apparently ) is being held ( thursday/friday/
saturday ).

I have a good friend Vince Walls from the Over the Hill track club
that tried to get me to enter.  For the Over the Hill club it is local
and they want to win I guess.

This morning the finals in the 5000 meters ( no prelims ) was being
held in various age groups.

As I drove past the stadium this morning on the way into work we were
in the middle of a major downpour.  My guess is Berea will get 2
inches this morning before/during/after the 5000 races.  Should be fun
eh if they manage to get the races in at all.

They want a lot of money to compete in the USATF events plus you have
to buy a membership.  As a result of that plus the travel expenses for
out of town people most of the competitions have very small entry
lists.

Looks like you compete in 5 year age groups.

In a bunch of the womens events there are many events with 1 or 0
competitors.  For example the womens 5000 in a bunch of age groups.

Good luck to all the people competing in Berea in the next 3 days!

Last time I was in the USA I managed to win a prize for being the one
and only person in my age group.

It would appear that between 2/3 to 3/4  of the runners didn't finish. I
never discovered the age distribution of the non finishers, sometimes
it's better not to know so as to maintain delusions of adequacy.
