Subject: Friendly Personal Archivist
You came through in the crunch a few months ago, when I needed a copy of Yoga
and the Athlete. It was like having my own friendly personal archivist, and
having that book back in my life was like having a part of myself returned to
You may be able to help again. I've been searching all over for the copy of
Runner's World in which I first articulated the core insights which were to
develop into the *** paradigm. I checked with Rodale and with a
couple of local running stores which had collections of back issues, but with
no luck. Finally, Joe Henderson put me in touch with Rich Benyo, who is, for
all practical purposes, the Runner's World archivist. Rich said he had a
copy of that issue and promised to scan it and email it to me.
Unfortunately, it was part of a bound volume, and he was unable to open it up
and lay it flat for scanning. He said that he may have an unbound copy lying
around somewhere in his garage, and the last word, a couple of months ago,
was that he'd try to find it.
That particular issue was either December of 1980 or January of 1981. It has
an extremely rare cover in that it's not a running photo, but instead of
photo of Frank Shorter cross-country skiing. If that rings a bell for you,
let me know.
Meanwhile, I'm going to send you some emails which I send out to people who
order CDs from the website. I think you'll find them interesting.
