A mild sprain.  No pain.  Mild swelling.  I'm icing & elevating it 3-4
times per day.  Sprain occurred 1 day ago.

marathon, took the two weeks off, had it taped the night before the
race, and finished without any problem.  Like yours, it was a very mild
sprain.   On the other hand, why do you want to run on a sprained ankle
if you don't have to?  My advice is don't do it.

Some of the swelling could be more permanent if you continue running while its
still sprained. I'm pretty sure it could heal slower too, even though its just
a mild sprain.

I've had numerous ankle sprains throughout the years.  From experience
I've determined that if I can run reasonably well with one of those neoprene
ankle braces, I expect no ill effects from doing so.  Of course, RICE it
(Rest Ice Compression Elevation) whenever practical.  Good luck.

Why not take a day or two off? It won't kill you...;) You may prevent serious,
more permanent damage if you just give yourself a break. =)

Take it easy but if you feel like going on a run, do it.  Don't be afraid to
stop if there's even the slightest pain.  I've run on all sorts of fairly
bad injuries, although it probably wasn't the best thing to do.  As long as
you're not afraid to stop and as long as you are taking care of the injured
area, you shouldn't run into any problems.

Of course, if you usually take days off anyway, why not move your off day up
a little to accommodate for the injury?

Take the time off to let it heal.  It will probably be fine within a
week.  You aren't going to lose any significant fitness taking a week
off and you might save yourself from another injury.

Look into getting an aircast. I'm not sure how new they are to the medical
scene, but I got one in January after I suffered a bad sprain during a
soccer game. It worked wonders. It took alot of the stress off the injury
and enabled me to move around with alot less pain. With the aid of the
aircast, I was back to running *way* earlier than if I hadn't had it. You
can wear it inside your shoe while you run...

I was amazed.
